Services

Hometown Children's Center is divided into six learning centers
  • The Infant Room (see the Infant Room page for pictures)

The infant room cares for children 6 weeks to approximately 1 year old.  The children are allowed to form their own sleeping, eating and activity schedules.  The staff interacts with each child on a one on one basis, encouraging tummy time, muscle development, and social interaction.

Each infant has his/her own crib. The center provides cotton sheets and blankets for the cribs. If your child has a favorite blanket, you may bring it from home.  Under each crib is a box holding parent-provided diapers and extra clothes. We provide baby wipes.

As a part of our lunch and snack program Hometown provides a milk based formula. If your child has special dietary needs and requires a formula different than the brand we provide, we ask that you provide formula due to the increase cost of specialized formulas. Parents need to provide five (5) empty clean bottles daily.  After use, we will rinse out the bottles, and put them in a basket to be taken home daily.  If you nurse your baby you may bring frozen breast milk in plastic bottle liners.   We will warm it in our crock-pot and give it to your baby.  If you are in a position to come over during the day and nurse your baby you are welcome to do that.  We will provide a private area for you and the baby if you desire.

As your baby grows, we also provide infant cereal.  We will not introduce any new foods to your baby’s diet without your permission.  We will occasionally make suggestions about your child’s eating routine if the child appears to not be satisfied with their present schedule.

  • The Toddler Room (see the Toddler Room page for pictures)

The toddler room cares for children 1 year to about 2+ years old.  It is a place for large motor growth, utilizing the climber and the large floor area for independent play and also allowing the children the freedom to move from one activity to the next with spacious boundaries.  The toy shelves are accessible and filled with cars, trucks, blocks, dolls, and picture books. Teacher-led activities fill the morning and include of art, reading, and music.  The afternoon consists of nap-time, snack, outside time and activities that enhance large and small muscle development.

At naptime the children have their own sleeping bag that they bring from home.  They are allowed to sleep up to 2 hours.  If a child wakes up before their friends do, quiet table activities such as puzzles, play-dough, and coloring are provided. Daily activity log sheets tell the parents when their child’s diapers were changed, how long nap-time was,  and if anything is needed from home such as diapers and extra clothing.

  • The Two and Three Year Old Preschool Room
(see the Preschool Room page for pictures)

The two-plus to three year old classroom focuses on developing social skills, encourages creativity in various art areas, language building and overall emotional and physical development through productive play.  The curriculum is geared toward the abilities of the children.  We also begin potty training with the support and help of the parents when the children are at home.
  • The Four and Five Year Old Preschool Room
(see the Preschool Room page for pictures)

The 4 and 5 year old classroom provides the children the opportunity to work at learning centers independently, interact with peers and continue preparing for the social and educational goals of a preschooler.
  • The Four-Year Old Kindergarten Room
(see the Four Year Kindergarten page for pictures)

Hometown participates in the Stevens Point School District voluntary 4-K program.  We have a morning and afternoon session with 12 children in each session.  The curriculum is based on the Wisconsin Models of Early Learning Standards (WMELS). The small group allows more time for the teacher to interact with the children and at the same time to evaluate their readiness for kindergarten.  The 4-K program provides art activities, group activities, and learning centers. We go on field trips throughout the academic year.  Wraparound care is available if needed.
  • The Playground (see the Playground page for pictures)

Our large playground is enclosed with a 5 ft. chain link fence. This fence improves the safety by eliminating the possibility of reach-over by most adults. Over half of the playground is tree covered and provides nice shade for hot afternoons.  We have two large climbers and a pile of sand-weighted tires to help the children develop large muscle and coordination skills.  The age-appropriate swings are popular with all and are monitored closely by our staff.  The children have access to tricycles and play cars that make our figure-eight sidewalk very popular.  There are ample sand and beach toys to use in the sand pit.

Food Program

Hometown serves a nutritious and balanced lunch daily plus a morning and an afternoon snack. if neccessary special dietary needs are accommodated.  Children under 2 years old are not given peanut butter due to possible allergies.
